Dinnerly Meal Plan Menu Examples

I was over the moon for the meals each night in our box.

Full disclosure, I am a simple man and I love plain old-fashioned meals. Probably because that’s what we grew up within a big family – so these simple, back-to-the-basics meals were a big hit with me (but also for my wife and our kids).

Now, I wanted to help give an idea of what to expect from the Dinnerly meal kit. So, here are 5 of my favorite recipes from their meal plans.

Pork Shumai Meatballs with Green Beans & Rice

Dinnerly 6

Everything you enjoy about pork shumai dumpling, minus the hard work it takes to make dumplings. These tender shumai-style pork meatballs are seasoned with garlic and ginger and served on a bed of light jasmine rice with stir-fried green beans.

Fettuccine Alfredo with Garlicky Broccoli

Dinnerly 7

The hardest part of this recipe was saying the name! Mascarpone is used instead of butter and cream, with grated parmesan dusted on top and a side of garlicky broccoli – it’s the perfect combination of smooth and crunchy.

Vegetable Coconut Curry with Jasmine Rice

Dinnerly 8

It would have been better to name this recipe coconut curry in a hurry because it is simple and very fast to prepare. Featuring tender cauliflower pieces, spiced with warm garam masala blend and simmered in a tomato sauce, mellowed with creamy coconut milk. Finished off being served on a bed of fluffy jasmine rice.

Cheese-Stuffed Meatloaf with Mashed Potatoes, Gravy & Broccoli

Dinnerly 9

You will never go wrong with meatloaf and mashed potatoes, especially if you have children! The meatloaves are individual and will ooze with cheese, while being smothered in caramelized ketchup. Served with roasted broccoli and buttered up mashed potatoes, basking in a creamy gravy. It might just be better than mom’s but let’s not repeat that.

Veggie Pot Pie with Cheesy Bread Topping

Dinnerly 10

The sauce in this veggie pot pie is fantastic, and it only gets better with a layer of warm and crunchy, cheesy bread. A one-skillet masterpiece, full of sweet potatoes and peas coated in a creamy broth and topped with toasted italian bread and melted cheddar.

What’s Unique About Dinnerly?

The Dinnerly meal kit service is quite a step away from the norm. The elephant in the room being that their meals are significantly cheaper than others – how do they keep it so low?

They don’t skimp on the ingredients, although their meals do have on average a lesser amount of ingredients but I don’t consider this a problem.  The meals are interesting, but not to the standards of a typical foodie, just perfect for normal people and families.

The low price point is the real drawcard for Dinnerly and its unique selling point in the crowded meal kit delivery market. With meals from $4.49 per serving, it is ridiculously cheap to get everything taken care of at dinner time without the stress involved in planning and preparing.

Even for those that absolutely struggle with preparing dinners – the Dinnerly recipes are very simple and were developed with 6 or less ingredients per meal. Most recipes only take about 5 or 6 steps to prepare too. They have been the easiest meals to prepare in my experience.

How to Get Started with Dinnerly

1. Select your box

Get started by selecting your meal kit plan. Select from the Two-Person Box or the Family Box (4 persons), each plan comes with either 3, 4, or 5 meals per week and can be made vegetarian.

2. Set your location and register

Enter your zip code and email address to continue on and register your account.

3. Delivery details

Complete your account details by entering your delivery address and choose your ideal delivery day. Dinnerly meal kit deliveries can either be on a Monday or a Saturday

4. Payment

Time to complete your payment information.

5. Choose your meals

All that is left to do now is choose your meals and then sit back and wait for your first Dinnerly meal kit delivery!

Meal options & Specialty diets

Each week you will get to choose from 6 recipes to include in your weekly meal kit box. This is lower than their competition, but at the end of the day the meals you are choosing from at Dinnerly in my experience were all decent – there did not appear to be unorthodox or ‘filler’ meals to spruce the menu up – just real food for normal people.

Two meal plans are available, the Two-Person Box or the Family Box (ideal for 4 people). Both plans can be marked as vegetarian preferred, as well as both featuring your choice of 3, 4, or 5 meals per week.

There are no specialty diets available, but the 6 recipes that you get to select from cover the following diet-preferences:

  • Gluten-free
  • Vegetarian
  • Low calorie
  • Kid-friendly

How Much Does Dinnerly Cost?

Dinnerly is the most affordable meal kit delivery service that you will come across in the United States, plus they also deliver to other countries like our mates down under. Although Dinnerly costs are less than all the other recipe kits, they do use the same great quality ingredients – just with a simple approach.

Costs are kept low by using digital recipe cards instead of paper, simple packaging and marketing campaigns, and fewer ingredients per dish (which also means less preparation and less cleaning up!).

Depending on which meal plan you opt for, you can get Dinnerly to your door from as little as $4.49 per serving! A breakdown of the costs is included below (all total amounts include $8.99 shipping costs) to show you where the best value is found.

Servings Per WeekMeal Kit Plan
Two-Person BoxFamily Box
Three$38.93 ($4.99 per serving)$68.87 ($4.99 per serving)
Four$48.11 ($4.89 per serving)$84.03 ($4.69 per serving)
Five$56.89 ($4.79 per serving)$98.79 ($4.49 per serving)

How Long Do Dinnerly Meals Last?

Ingredients will arrive fresh to your home, however, to enjoy your meals at their best, you should start with the seafood dishes within the first 1-2 days, followed by the ground meat and chicken based meals within 2-3 days, and other meat and veggie based dishes within 3-5 days.

What Comes in the Dinnerly Box?

Your fresh and healthy ingredients will be delivered straight to your door in an insulated meal kit box on either a Monday or Saturday. Inside you will find all the pre-portioned and pre-prepared ingredients needed for tasty and simple dinner recipes. What you won’t find inside are the typical recipe cards because they use a digital recipe card approach, however, the recipes are also printed on the box which is kinda cool.

The Dinnerly box itself is eco-friendly, with just about all the components being recyclable at most community recycling centers. The boxes are SFI certified, which means they are made from paper that is sourced from sustainably managed forests.

Dinnerly Conclusion

If you have been waiting to try out the stress free lifestyle of using a meal kit delivery service, than Dinnerly is your ticket inside. Their team has carved out a solid share of the meal delivery market because it sticks to what works for the everyday people – like me! (and probably like you!). Their meals are very affordable, coming in at just under $5 per serving but just like the simple costs, the recipes are simple and easy to make too.

So, for busy parents, or people that are overworked and lack the energy to keep up with nutritionally healthy meals at dinner, than Dinnerly might be the perfect match. I love the basic nature of this and it is great to see that meal kit delivery services are no longer just for those that can afford the higher subscription fees. Put it this way, eating these meals at home is much better than resorting to fast food joints.
