Process Components - Iris Diaphragm Valves, Spare Parts and Services for the Food Industry

Process Components (PCL) offers a broad portfolio of products and services ranging from the original and world-renowned Mucon Iris Diaphragm Valve (IDV) through to spares and consumables for all manner of food, pharmaceutical and chemical processing equipment.

In addition to offering a wide range of spare parts, PCL provides a range of machine maintenance services encompassing everything you will need to efficiently operate:

  • Impact / hammer mills
  • Cone mills
  • PPS air classifier mills
  • Kibblers
  • Centrifugal sifters
  • Mixers and blenders

Process control valves

We supply a range of high-quality process control valves. The Mucon Iris Valve provides a simple and effective method of efficiently controlling the flow and isolation of bulk solids. Our range extends from the simple H-Series bin discharge version, through to the easy clean hygienic K-Series Iris valve with its injection-moulded diaphragm which is used extensively in the food and pharmaceutical processing sectors.

Mucon also boasts a range of swinging arm disc valves. The disc and the face to which it seals are angled to prevent the valve jamming in the closed position. The valve can be operated manually or by pneumatic or electric linear actuators.

Our butterfly valves are grouped into two categories, hygienic and general purpose. The hygienic butterfly valves offers the user quick disconnect, and easy clean attributes. While our general purpose butterfly valves provide a more conventional range of options and applications, better able to cope with extreme environments and high pressures.

Relatively new to the Mucon range is our slide valve. The valve has an entirely stainless-steel blade combining the handle, which should stand up to the treatment from even the most enthusiastic of operators. Typical applications for slide valves include shutting off hoppers and isolating screw conveyors.

Bin discharge equipment

The Mucon brand also promotes an extensive range of discharge aids that are used to promote the flow of material in their production process. These include the Promoflow range of discharge aids, Powderflow aerators and the NP vibrators.

The Promoflow discharge aids provide a retro-fit solution to bin or silo discharge problems. The Promoflow is quiet in operation, quick and easy to install and as we say, "it only shakes the contents, not the bin". We even produce a Promoflow Mini range for very small hoppers or tubes.

The Powderflow aerator provides an extremely low-cost solution to a number of product hang-up problems. Compact and simple to install, the sintered aerator pad provides a jet of compressed gas into the 'bridged' product, locally fluidising the product and encouraging it to flow.

NP vibrators, when installed correctly, provide a tried and tested method for improved powder flow by vibrating the hopper.

Process equipment spares

Process equipment spares encompasses the following product groups:

  • Centrifugal sifters 1
  • Universal / hammer mills,
  • Air classifier mills
  • Cone mills
  • Kibblers / nibblers,
  • Ribbon mixers, plough shear mixers,
  • Blenders and associated basic control equipment

Our available spare parts resource is extremely extensive. Contact us for more information.

Sifter screens

Our mesh screens are available in nylon, polyester, anti-static nylon and both carbon and stainless steel. In many materials we can offer mesh sizes from 10µm up to 5,000µm, in a variety of shapes and sizes to suit all major sifter brands.

2Sieving requirements are becoming ever more stringent, with ever-reducing mesh sizes being specified by end users; so it is vital that we are able to assist our customers by not only manufacturing their screens, but also helping them to predict the effect any change is likely to have on their sieving throughput rates.

Many customers have begun to move away from traditional mesh screens, migrating instead to wedge wire basket technology. The very robust welded mesh, manufactured from fine wedge-shaped strands, has a greatly increased life expectancy and should it fail, the ferritic stainless-steel construction makes it attractive to magnets for easy detection and extraction.

Milling consumables

We can help specify and provide all manner of grinding media. Whether it is a 'pin and disc' configuration or a 'turbine and screen' solution, we can provide parts and technical process support.

Our experience with air classifier mills allows us to provide consumable parts to the original manufacturer's specifications, including classifiers, pins, bar hammers, discs, liners and much more.

We also offer cones for cone mills and screens for kibblers or nibblers, all backed by our process know-how.

Machine service and repair of mill and sifter bearing assemblies

For the many varieties of bearing assemblies fitted to mills and larger sifters, we offer:

  • Strip and inspect service
  • A full refurbishment service
  • As well as supplying new products

We are able to service and repair all Kek, Gardner, Mucon and PPS branded machines. Work can be carried on a contractual or ad hoc basis. As an example, we currently maintain centrifugal sifting machines for ten of the eleven Warburton's bakeries in the UK; just one example from a long list of machine service, maintenance and breakdown repairs carried out in the UK and further afield.
