Provides consumers with a freshness indicator and also offers manufacturers and retailers a platform for promotions and coupon redemption
SafeTScribe Technologies, located in Austin, Texas and a developer low cost time and temperature ink technology for the food, beverage industries, has revealed that the company's focus on food and drug safety and quality assurance will allow producers, distributors and retailers to provide consumers with safer products.
The company claims that the smart ink technology will improve the quality and safety of perishables, pharmaceuticals and healthcare products by providing an active packaging and labeling system that creates accountability throughout the entire food and drug supply chain from processing and production to distribution, retail and consumption.
The company said that the time sensing ink is designed as a visual tool to manage the freshness of products on retail shelves to not only ensure inventory rotation but also provide consumers with a freshness indicator. Additionally, the time sensing ink is a platform for limited time promotions, self-discounting coupons and value-adds for any product with an expiration date in order to differentiate brand and increase revenues.
Carl Boisvert, president and CEO of SafeTScribe, said: "With the recent formation of the Food Safety Working Group, the Obama Administration has made it a clear priority to upgrade the food safety system for the 21st century and increase the FDA and USDA's oversight of the food industry. This means producers, manufacturers, distributors and retailers will need to improve overall quality assurance and accountability. SafeTScribe's smart ink technology is the ideal solution to create the highest level of supply chain integrity for safe, uncontaminated food, drug and healthcare products."
Simon Ellis, practice director of supply chain strategies at IDC's Manufacturing Insights, said: "There is little question that SafeTScribe's smart ink product has broad application in the supply chain as an alternative to expensive active temperature sensing technologies. Growing regulatory requirements aside, there are intriguing freshness applications including active expiration date monitoring, dynamic inventory identification and rotation and cold-chain quality assessment."
