FBR Staff Writer Published 04 March 2010

Old Home Foods, based in New Brighton, Minnesota has been notified by Gerry's Kitchen of Albert Lea, Minnesota (MGK) that a certain seasoning ingredient MGK procured that is used in Old Home's Spinach Dip contains hydrolyzed vegetable protein (HVP) that may be contaminated with Salmonella.

According to MGK, the source of the single, potentially contaminated ingredient is an out-of-state supplier. The company first received notification of this concern on March 5 and has taken steps to inform its customers immediately to permit customers to act accordingly to avoid illness or other detrimental effects.

Salmonella is an organism which can cause serious infections in young children, frail or elderly people and others with weakened immune systems. No illnesses have been reported in connection with this product.

The company said that the only product affected by the recall is Spinach Dip, which comes in 8 ounce plastic cup, bearing UPC 7032200492, use by date: 1/27 - 4/22/2010.

No other Old Home products are affected in any way. MGK has notified the FDA of this voluntary recall.
