Published:29-January-2010

McDonald's has said that it will rise capital investment in China by 25% this year as part of its strategy to revamp its outlets and also offer free wireless internet services to customers. It also intends to expand its drive-through units and rise franchise numbers in China over next few years, Reuters reported.

The chain at present has three franchises in mainland China and recently opened a new drive-through outlet in Zhongshan, located in the Southern side, making a total of 100 outlets in the country.

The news agency quoted Kenneth Chan, CEO of McDonald's China, as saying: "We are not in a rush to expand this (franchise) programme. Franchising is part of our expansion plan."

According to Mr Chan, the restaurant had target to open around 150-175 new shops in China in 2010, which add to its existing number of around 1,100 outlets in the country, and also introduce McCafes in major Chinese metros. The restaurant chain is also set to roll out a new brand concept called 'Make Room for Happiness' on the 20th anniversary of its first restaurant in Shenzhen.
