Maple Leaf To Sell Burlington Pork Processing Business

FBR Staff Writer Published 24 May 2010

Maple Leaf Foods, a consumer packaged food company, has initiated the sale process for its pork processing business located in Burlington, Ontario, following renewed interest from purchasers, economic conditions and credit markets.

The company has engaged financial advisors to support the sale process. The company claims that 365,000sqft Burlington facility is an efficient pork processing facility in Canada.

Michael Vels, chief financial officer of Maple Leaf, said: The sale of the Burlington business will complete the last phase of Maple Leaf's protein transformation journey and supports our commitment to refocus our growth in the value-added meat, meals and bakery business.

We are reinvigorating the sale process following renewed interest, including the potential of completing a sale to a producer group.

Maple Leaf Foods is headquartered in Toronto, Canada. The company employs approximately 23,500 people at its operations across Canada, the US, Europe and Asia. The company had sales of $5.2bn in 2009.
