Manuka to launch new honey products
Manuka Health, a New Zealand-based healthcare company, is set to produce new honey products using a Japanese process that blends the bioactive properties in the honey with cyclodextrins - beneficial compounds derived from plants.
The new process has been developed by Japanese company CycloChem Bio. Earlier this month, Manuka Health entered into an agreement with CycloChem Bio to use the process.
According to the company, the new process allows the honey to be processed in forms that boost its antibacterial potency many times more than the raw honey.
Manuka Health will produce the new bioactive products from its complex in Te Awamutu,. The company initially plans to launch a honey lozenge and a capsule next month.
Manuka Health portfolio includes about 80 functional food and dietary supplement products, including throat sprays and toothpastes.
