FBR Staff Writer Published 05 September 2010

Hefestus, a developer and manufacturer of packaging machines in Israel, has introduced a new packaging system called 'Shelf Life Booster' (SLB) to extend the shelf life of cherries.

The company said that after having conducted many trials in packaging facilities that specialize in superfruits, it has developed a technique to extend shelf life of cherries to more than 20 days, .

Hefestus claims that SLB enables processors to double shelf life of cherries, and also retains the texture and freshness of the fruit.

According to the company, this technology additionally saves costs through minimized labor and maintenance of hygienic stations, and increased marketing speed and availability.

Hefestus president and CEO Oded Shtemer said that the company's packaging system for cherries is suitable for any size production or marketing operation, small or large.

“Athena is a compact packaging machine designed for fresh product shelf-life enhancement and can be implemented even in small spaces, while Hercules is the most advanced packaging system. Its high-speed packaging line can pack trays at a pace of up to 30 per minute.

“SLB technology allows our customers to reduce the costs of packaging materials and improves our environmental profile by using environmentally friendly packaging,” ,” Shtemer said
