Dannon named processor of the year by Dairy Foods
The Dannon Company, the White Plains, New York-based subsidiary of Groupe Danone, has been named 2006 processor of the year by US dairy industry trade publication, Dairy Foods.
Dannon is one of only two yogurt companies to win the award, which Dairy Foods has presented annually to the dairy processor that it considers has made significant recent or long-term accomplishments, since 1983. Stonyfield Farm, also a subsidiary of Groupe Danone, was the other yogurt company to be given this award, receiving it in 2003. According to Dannon, Dairy Foods' board of industry representatives, processors, industry organizations and suppliers chose it from a list of six other nominees because of its product innovation, commitment to quality, industry service and financial success. David Phillips, chief editor of Dairy Foods, said: While the US dairy industry is rightfully excited about the recent history of innovation and sales growth in the yogurt category, Dannon is ready to push that innovation and US yogurt consumption to an even higher level. During 2006, Dannon launched a number of products into the US market. These included its probiotic yogurt range Activia, and Light and Fit Crave Control, a reduced-sugar nonfat yogurt made with fruit, cereal and ProteinFiberPlus. Since its US launch in 2006, Activia has exceeded $100 million in net sales. Juan Carlos Dalto, CEO of The Dannon Company, commented: We are honored to be selected by our peers in the US dairy industry for this acknowledgement.
