Brasil Foods, Dah Chong Hong form JV in China
Brazilian food company Brasil Foods has established a joint venture (JV) with Hong Kong-listed food and vehicles distributor Dah Chong Hong to expand food distribution in China.
The 50:50 JV will enable Brasil foods to engage in local processing, develop the Sadia brand, and reach retail and food service channels in continental China, Hong Kong and Macau. The JV covers chilled poultry, pork and beef products.
While BRF will focus on production, technical support and marketing for the products to be sold by the joint venture, DCH will concentrate on supply chain and distribution operations, processing and packaging services.
The partnership is expected to sell volumes of more than 140,000 metric tons and generate revenues of approximately $450m in the first year.
DCH is one of the leading distributors of automobiles, food and consumer products in China and Hong Kong, with infrastructure for distributing chilled and frozen food. It has operations in Mainland China, Hong Kong and Macau.
