Asda fresh fruit sales soar
Wal-Mart owned UK retailer Asda claims to have sold more fresh fruit than ever before, having seen sales rise over the past year.
Sales of tropical fruit rose by 57% year-on-year, while berries were up by 62% and sales of prepared fruit grew by 53%, the retailer told industry publication freshinfo.com We've been listening carefully to our customers over the past year to ensure we are giving them exactly what they want, said Alison Dakin, produce marketing communications manager at Asda. We've enhanced our produce offer, introduced different pack sizes to cater for all their needs, and launched our Smartprice range making our fruit and veg even more affordable for customers on a tight budget. The company also attributed high fresh fruit sales to the recent trend among consumers to opt for healthy snacks, and Asda's strategy of linking fresh produce to events such as the launch of The Incredibles on DVD.
